$3.3 Million 1957 Maserati 200SI Mille Miglia Race Car
A very rare Italian Racing Red 1957 Maserati 200SI with bodywork by Carrozzeria Fantuzzi arriving at Macchinissima II at the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens. This car, chassis no. 2415, was raced by its original owner Sig. Fernando ""Nando"" Pagliarini at the final Mille Miglia in 1957, where it placed sixth in class and 23rd overall. It is one of around 19 SI (Sport Internazionale) examples built out of around 28 200S and 250S chassis and still retains its original bodywork, chassis, gearbox, and engine. This car will be offered at auction during Monterey Car Week by Broad Arrow Auctions at the Monterey Jet Center, where it is expected to sell for a price of $3,300,000 to $3,600,000.
Some of the most thrilling moments in car spotting are those that involve multi-million-dollar historic vehicles driving on the very same pavement where you can drive your Civic. I made a brief stop at the site of Macchissima II expecting to possibly catch a handful of random cars arriving early and was blown away to see this gem - one of the biggest stars of the show - pulling up right in front of me. Apparently the folks at Broad Arrow aren't afraid to put a few more miles on a $3 million classic just weeks before it hits the auction block. But thanks to their bravery several of us here in SoCal got to see and hear this rare beast before it gets sold and shipped off to Lord-knows-where!
