A very rare silver 1959 Porsche 718 RSK Spyder, one of 34 RSKs built, leaving the 2022 Rodeo Drive Concours d'Elegance, where it won the Chairman's Award. This car, chassis no. 718-023, is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder Type 547/3 engine and was driven by Roy Schechter in the 1959 Courtland Sports Car Races. The car was sold at auction for $3,300,000 in 2014.

Porsche enthusiasts aren't surprised to see rare and collectible models trade hands for ridiculous prices. Even so, $3.3 million is a huge amount of money. And that was a decade ago. The RSK isn't often talked about, partly because so few examples were built especially compared to the popular 356s and early 911s that dominate the vintage Porsche scene. Also, few attempts were made to replicate it despite its predecessor (the 550 Spyder) being one of the most popular designs for replica builders. While that limits general knowledge of the 718's existence, at least you won't constantly be slammed with questions about its authenticity. It's amazing how tiny this car looks in person, but that only testifies to how much of a blast it must be to drive. I hope the owner takes it to the track where it can reach its full potential just like it did over 60 years ago!
