1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing (w/ startup)
A silver 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (W198) Gullwing with red stripes arriving at and leaving Legacy Cars & Coffee at Flight at Tustin Legacy.
There's a reason the 300 SL is now worth over a million dollars. It was inspired by the famous Mercedes W194 race car and was the fastest production car of its time. It has those iconic gullwing doors that I'll never get tired of seeing open and close. And it's simply beautiful from every angle. I personally believe it's one of the most beautiful cars of all time.
Nowadays, people often associate supercars with various types of upward-opening doors that add visual appeal. But contrary to popular belief, the 300 SL's doors didn't swing upward for the purpose of looking cool. The car's tubular frame and low roof made traditionally-hinged doors highly impractical, and engineers had to come up with a better solution. What began as a technical challenge resulted in one of the most iconic automotive design features of all time. The 300 SL's styling is classy, cohesive, and timeless. And just take a look at that gorgeous interior! While admiring this car, I was asked if I would trade it for a new car. My answer? "Definitely not".
