Here's a car with an unfortunate but wild story that's still unraveling. Last week I read news reports about a classic Corvette being stolen, and I was shocked to discover it was this very same car I had just seen over a week before the incident took place. Car thefts are unfortunately an increasingly common occurrence in L.A., but it's crazy that someone would intentionally target a vehicle like this. First of all, classic cars are significantly more challenging to drive than modern cars. Also, they're not as quick or agile (and aren't particularly good for evading cops). And needless to say, a rare concours-quality convertible sports car probably attracts quite a bit more attention than a typical wanted felony suspect seeks. With authorities and the enthusiast community both on alert, even sales of parts are likely to be scrutinized. Hopefully this thief gets identified and caught soon. And no less importantly, I hope this beautiful Corvette returns home unscathed!
On a side note, if you're going to stand in the street to shoot pictures or videos, always pay attention to your surroundings. Near the end of the video a photographer was standing right behind a large trailer not realizing the vehicle was backing up (and the driver couldn't see him). If it weren't for those who called out to alert him from across the street, things may not have ended well.
Do you think police will be able to catch the suspected car thief and return this Corvette to its owner? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
