770-hp Carbon-Bodied Shelby GT500 CR by Classic Recreations
A very rare 1967 Shelby GT500CR Carbon Edition by Classic Recreations, one of 25 Carbon Editions being built, arriving at and leaving Cars 'N Copters on the Coast at Huntington City Beach. Based in Texas, Classic Recreations specializes in building restomod GT350 and GT500 Mustangs and is officially licensed by Shelby American. Each car takes about 2,500 hours to restore and modify. The carbon-bodied GT500CR has a starting price of $480,000 and is over 600 pounds lighter than the original GT500. This example, finished in exposed carbon weave with blue stripes, was completed in 2023 and is equipped with the Detroit Speed track package and a six-speed manual transmission. It is powered by a 5.0-liter Coyote Gen 3 Ford Performance crate engine with VMP Performance supercharger producing 770 horsepower.
Even for someone whose mind-blowing collection of European supercars and hypercars includes a rare McLaren MSO X and Pagani Zonda (both seen on this video), there's something special about good ol' American muscle. And thanks to companies like Classic Recreations, you can enjoy a classic muscle car with exotic materials and supercar-rivaling power provided you're willing to dish out supercar-level money. This car may not have upward-swinging doors or an engine behind the cabin, but it sure is loud, cool, and fun - just the way a muscle car should be. And with its half-million-dollar price tag, bespoke carbon bodywork, and powerful engine, it certainly feels right at home in a garage full of exotic supercars.
