A grey 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS with red interior arriving at and leaving Peninsula Cars & Coffee at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, organized by the Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance. According to the owner, this car was previously owned by singer/songwriter Kenny Rogers.

For quite some time already, I had filmed at least one exotic car from every year since the late '40s... except 1978. (Yes, I actually have detailed data for the nearly 2,000 posted videos all saved on spreadsheet with filters. Nerd life is awesome.) I'm not sure what it is about 1978 that has made it such a challenge. Maybe it falls right in that gap where cars are not old enough for owners to brag about their age but are also too old to conform to modern standards that make identification easier. Or maybe most vehicles have succumbed to reliability issues common especially to European cars of the time. Either way, I was stoked when the owner of this 308 told me it's a 1978 model, and he probably thought I was crazy.

I'm glad my insanity didn't stop us from enjoying a nice chat though. He told me about the car's previous celebrity ownership, about how he initially stumbled upon the car and the opportunity eventually came up for him to buy it, and about his other Ferrari that shares a similar color scheme. It was the unique color that first drew me to this car right when I saw it. This is one of the only 308's I've seen in this shade, and I think it's fitting both in the late '70s and right now. It may be subtle for a Ferrari, but it certainly draws attention to the beautiful red interior - a great way to incorporate Ferrari's most iconic color without looking like everybody else.

What are your thoughts on this spec on the 308? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
