New 2023 Porsche 992 GT3 RS in Beverly Hills
A new silver 2023 Porsche 911 (992) GT3 RS driving in Beverly Hills. Introduced in August 2022, the track-focused GT3 RS has a starting price (MSRP) of $223,800. It is powered by a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six engine producing 518 horsepower and features aggressive bodywork with a large rear wing for improved aerodynamics. This example is equipped with painted 20-/21-inch GT3 RS forged Magnesium lightweight wheels and the $33,250 optional Weissach package.
Remember back when the now-famous GT3 RS badge was first applied to the 996-generation 911? That car was visually very similar to the regular 996 GT3 except for a bigger wing and some decals, and the regular GT3 itself was largely based on existing 911 variants. Well, fast forward almost 20 years, and it seems like with each new 911 generation Porsche pushes for more vents, bigger wings, and flashier colors to set its track-focused cars apart from more civilized variants. It's just like the "Jurassic World" film series, where in each installment the dinosaurs must get bigger, scarier, and more ferocious to keep the audience entertained.
The new 992-generation GT3 RS has vents literally just about everywhere you can stick them without compromising the 911's overall profile. And that rear wing? I had known from pictures that it was massive, but now that I've seen one in person? Wow. It's like when you're near a moving semi-truck or heavy construction vehicle and you naturally feel inclined to keep a distance and hold your kids back in case the operator fails to realize how close certain parts of the vehicle are to you. Get too close to the GT3 RS, and your nose might get clipped off without the driver knowing anything had happened. I'm sure there will be plenty of stories about GT3 RS wings getting caught in bushes or knocking down objects in garages.
This car sets a new standard of craziness for a street-legal 911, and it looks almost comical driving alongside ordinary cars. Even among car enthusiasts, only the most hardcore individuals would drive a car like this on public roads. But those particular individuals will certainly also know that just as Porsche doesn't fail to repeatedly 1-up itself with wild styling, it also doesn't fail to repeatedly deliver improvements on performance and value that bring customers back to dealerships for the latest models. $250,000 is a heck of a lot of money for a 911, but if previous GT3 RS generations are any indication, this car will undoubtedly be a popular choice.
