New Safari Yellow 2023 Morgan Super 3
A new 2023 Morgan Super 3 arriving at and leaving the 2023 San Marino Motor Classic at Lacy Park. Introduced in February 2022, the Super 3 is the first new Morgan sold in the United States since 3 Wheeler production ceased in 2021. It has a dry weight of around 1,400 pounds and is powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder Ford engine producing 118 horsepower mated to a five-speed Mazda manual transmission. With a starting price of around $54,000, the Super 3 was advertised by Morgan as "the company's most configurable model to date". This example, currently for sale at Morgan West in Santa Monica, is equipped with numerous options including Safari Yellow paint, Mariner Tan quilted leather interior, Malle luggage, and Silver Metallic side blades, side rails, cockpit rails, and nose cowl.
Morgan has always been an oddball in the automotive world. Given the small British company has spent decades building cars that look more or less the same, many enthusiasts aren't quite sure exactly what to make of it or who it's meant to appeal to. Then there are the trikes; long before vehicles like the Campagna T-Rex and Polaris Slingshot were conceived, Morgan was already producing three-wheelers. In fact, Morgan built three-wheelers decades before it built its first four-wheeled car. And now it has brought that tradition back with a modern twist.
$54,000 may not seem like much for a new car from a boutique manufacturer, but keep in mind that the Super 3 has the practicality of a motorcycle despite taking up as much space as a small car. (It's actually registered as a motorcycle in the U.S., too, in case you didn't know.) So most people who want one probably either can't afford one or don't have room for one, making its market very limited (in typical Morgan fashion.) The Super 3 is definitely cool though, with its unusual layout, exciting open-air experience, and styling that's uniquely and unmistakably Morgan - a perfect blend of retro and modern that looks like nothing else on the road today. If you happen to be in the market for an expensive British super-tricycle with styling that traces its roots to over a century ago, you may have just found your perfect ride!
