Rare McLaren 720S Le Mans (1 of 50 built)

A very rare Sarthe Grey 2021 McLaren 720S Le Mans, one of 50 Le Mans editions built, arriving at and leaving Cars and Coffee at Finish Line Auto Club. Built to commemorate the 25th anniversary of McLaren's victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995, the 720S Le Mans was offered in one of two colors (Sarthe Grey and McLaren Orange) and featured Ueno Grey contrasting bodywork, a gloss black roof scoop, carbon fiber louvered front fenders, gold brake calipers, and 25th Anniversary logos. Each car has a VIN beginning with 298, the number of laps completed by the Le Mans-winning #59 F1 GTR, and is equipped with unique 5-spoke LM wheels inspired by that car.

This is one of those rare cases when the existence of a car managed to slip under my obsessive radar. I'd always known that there was a Le Mans edition of the 650S (and was lucky to have caught one in person), but I had no idea its successor received a similar treatment until I crossed paths with this example donning wheels and logos that instantly helped me draw the connection. Maybe it didn't get much media coverage because so few units were built. Or maybe most people just didn't care about another model in McLaren's confusing alphanumeric lineup. But it's certainly a noteworthy special edition with unique wheels, modified bodywork, and historical significance. I'm surprised how well this combination of color, wheels, and added aero bits works, giving McLaren's base Super Series model a fresh new factory-spec attitude. The 720S may already have been topped by the more powerful 765LT and the brand new 750S, but this car will always remain a treat to see for those who recognize it.

Would you choose this rare 720S Le Mans edition over a 765LT? Leave a comment on YouTube and let me know!
