Rare Red Ferrari Daytona SP3 (w/ startup)
A rare red 2023 Ferrari Daytona SP3 arriving at and leaving Cars and Coffee at Finish Line Auto Club. Introduced in November 2021, the Daytona SP3 is the third model (after the Monza SP1 and SP2) in Ferrari's "Icona" series of limited production cars inspired by historic models. Built on a LaFerrari Aperta chassis, it is powered by a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated F140HC V12 engine producing 828 horsepower and features styling inspired by past Ferraris including the 1960s 330 P3/P4 race cars. This example, registered in Mexico, is one of 599 Daytona SP3s being built.
After most cars had already left Finish Line's Cars and Coffee and almost all the spectators had already dispersed, the owner of this gem (which was parked inside one of the garages) decided it was the perfect time to pull it out for a brief showing then take it for a spin. This is exactly why I'm usually one of the last people to leave car events!
Ferrari has come up with many great designs in recent years, but I think the Daytona SP3 really takes the cake. It's a clear nod to historic race cars while still looking modern. The Testarossa-like horizontal strake motif appears in both front and back and creates both a sense of design cohesiveness and excellent contrast with the otherwise curvaceous bodywork. And check out those retractable headlight covers! I'm not sure if they are a functional necessity, but they sure look cool. And this car is far more than just a limited edition styling exercise; it's based on a LaFerrari Aperta chassis and powered by a good-old-fashioned naturally aspirated V12. Unfortunately, it's probably the last Ferrari to use the mighty combination of a rear-mid-engined layout and a gas-only V12 which has spawned iconic cars like the Testarossa, F50, and Enzo. But that leaves no doubt that the SP3 will go down in history as a highly coveted Ferrari model that collectors will pay increasingly large sums of money to own.
