Rare Shelby Cobra 289 "Ford v Ferrari" Ken Miles Edition (w/ startup)
A very rare 1963 Shelby Cobra 289 Mk II "Ken Miles Edition" from the Shelby/Superformance Cinema Series arriving at and leaving Cars and Coffee at Crystal Cove Shopping Center. Cinema Series cars are based on vehicles from the 2019 movie "Ford v Ferrari" (also called "Le Mans '66"). Built by Superformance, which supplied the Cobras used in the film, the cars are authorized continuation Shelby Cobras with CSX8100-8199 serial numbers. This example, CSX8198, was the first of 100 Cinema Series Cobras being built. Finished in Wimbledon White with red interior, it was completed in 2020 and was based on the Mk II "Slab Side" Cobra driven by Ken Miles (Christian Bale). Each Ken Miles Edition car is sold with a spare cracked windshield (as seen in the movie) and a wrench with engraved Shelby autograph.
The "Ford v Ferrari" movie, which was praised by many car enthusiasts, brought about a renewed interest in iconic 60s race cars including the Shelby Cobra. The cars featured in the film look and sound authentic, but it's no surprise that they were actually carefully crafted replicas given the rarity and value of the original cars. Not content with letting fans settle for posters and scale models, Shelby and Superformance decided to produce a line of actual cars just like the ones used in the film. Enthusiasts vary in opinion about replicas and "continuation" vehicles, but when it comes to significant movie cars, the originals (if still existing) are almost always stored away in private collections or displayed at museums, and converting an existing vehicle to a replica movie car is generally seen as a commendable art form rather than a forgery attempt. Mechanically, this car is an authorized Shelby continuation Cobra. Visually, it's just like the car from the film, which in a sense was also a replica. So is it really wrong to build a replica of a replica?
