Rare Supercharged 1926 Bugatti Type 37A
A rare blue (Bleu de France) 1926 Bugatti Type 37A leaving Cars and Coffee at Finish Line Auto Club. The Type 37 shared the Type 35's chassis and bodywork but was powered by a 60-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine instead of the Type 35's straight-8 engine. In the supercharged Type 37A, power was increased to around 80-90 horsepower. This example, chassis no. 37207, is one of around 290 Type 37s built, less than 80 of which were supercharged from the factory.
Bugatti is now known for combining world-class performance and massive power with refined luxury. But a hundred years ago, it was best known for cars like this - no-nonsense performance machines with the sole purpose of dominating the track and pretty much nothing else. Four cylinders and 90 horsepower may seem like nothing compared to the eye-popping figures of modern Bugattis, but when paired with the Type 37's aerodynamic body and light weight, it was more than enough to leave competitors worried. This example was previously driven at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, and it's great to see it enjoying some miles on the street as well!
