Silver 1992 Ferrari 512 TR (w/ startup)
A rare silver 1992 Ferrari 512 TR, one of 2,261 512 TRs built, arriving at and leaving Legacy Cars & Coffee at Flight at Tustin Legacy.
Here's a Ferrari that I think is very underappreciated. Of course, that's largely because the original Testarossa was such an icon that any further iteration would inevitably have to live under its shadows. The 512 TR was essentially an improved Testarossa with more power and updated styling. Sure, critics may think someone simply slapped a 348 front bumper and F355 wheels on a Testarossa. But the design works well, effectively bringing the car into a time when tastes were beginning to shift away from the edgy, angular style that dominated the '80s. As with many performance cars of this era, it doesn't sound particularly exciting, especially for a huge V12. But I've always thought the 512 TR effectively blended the Testarossa's raw and edgy character - complete with those iconic side strakes and concealed taillights - with a touch of elegance and refinement. And it has aged well, except for those oh-so-lovely automatic seatbelts. This isn't a supercar that needs to scream for attention, and it looks great even in a conservative color like this. Ultimately, I guess the answer to whether or not this car deserves more recognition comes down to whether your nostalgic heart prefers to dwell in the '80s or in the '90s!
