White 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster
A rare white 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (W198) Roadster with black leather interior, one of 1,858 300 SL Roadsters built, arriving at and leaving Cars and Coffee at Finish Line Auto Club. This car had undergone a four-year restoration by Hjeltness Restorations over two decades ago in which it was refinished in its original color (DB 50 Weiß). Its original engine has been rebuilt and reinstalled, and it currently features various modifications including European-market headlights and a removed front bumper.
Contrary to popular belief, the 300SL Roadster wasn't simply an open-top variant of the iconic gullwing sports car. Made possible by engineering improvements that no longer required the use of top-hinged doors, the Roadster actually replaced the coupe and featured many improvements that made it a more usable car with minimal compromise in performance. Sadly, it often doesn't get as much love as it deserves simply because it doesn't have those fancy doors. But come on, just look at how sexy it is! If I had to be extremely picky, I'd say that I prefer the coupe's headlight design over the Roadster's. But I can't deny this car looks incredible from literally every angle. The generously proportioned rear end gives the Roadster a side profile no less gorgeous than that of the coupe - something that can't be said for a lot of convertibles. Another thing that can't be said for a lot of convertibles - it looks no less amazing with the top up!
As for the modifications on this car, I think they strike a good balance between uniqueness and authenticity. I'm definitely more used to seeing 300 SLs with the big chrome front bumper, but removing it gives the car a cleaner and more track-focused appearance. This car appears a bit lowered too. Other than that, it shines in authenticity with its factory color and original engine, which will certainly help preserve its seven-figure value.
